“Of all the judgement we pass in our life, none is more important than the judgement we pass on ourselves.” Nathaniel Branden, Ph.D.
If you have a negative self-image, it is very likely you will not do the things that would lead to happiness in life. A self-image becomes easily a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you expect your partner will leave you in the end, you will behave in a way that makes him finally leave you. Or, if you think you will be rejected anyway, you will probably act in a way that people will reject you. If you do not respect yourself, you will find many people who do not respect you, since that is what you protray.
If, on the other hand, you have a positive self-image, behave in constructive ways, not destructive ways, people will react towards you in a benevolent way more often than not. If you respect yourself, people will respect you more often than not.
To ‘investigate’ your self-image is a great way to start the process of personal growth. Most people have some beliefs in their self-image that are detrimental and lead to suffering instead of happiness. It is up to you to change that.
Beliefs that counteract your nature are bad beliefs, beliefs that contradict each other also have to be looked at and changed so nothing impairs your health in alignment with your nature.
If your self-image entails a belief like, “I am “not enough” that is certainly a very harmful thoght and belief and need to be reframed to ” I am enough”. That is easier said than done. But you can help to change that belief into a positive belief bu looking into a mirror and saying outloud” I am enough”. It’s not easy to say it in a matter of fact voice without pretention or pleading or asking for permission voice.
